The villages attacked by the attackers were Yar Doka, Kango, Ruwan Dawa, Madaba, Arzikin Da and Mairairai.
Witnesses said the attackers, who came in large numbers on motorcycles, stormed the villages and began firing sporadic shots.
This resulted in the loss of life, and several others were wounded, while the houses and other valuables of the villagers were razed.
“Yesterday, bandits attacked the village of Yar Doka here in Magami district, Gusau local government area. Neighboring villages came to their aid, bandits ambushed them and killed over 60 people, while others fled into the woods, ”a source told SaharaReporters.
The source added that many people were also wounded in the shooting and taken to the hospital for treatment.
He said the villages were deserted for fear the bandits might return.
“They also took several cows, sheep and goats, as well as food,” he added.
Deadly attacks raged across the Zamfara state where the bandits were advancing.
Agricultural and livestock communities in the country have long terrorized gangs that attack villages, steal livestock and kidnap residents for ransom.
In 2019, the state government entered into a peace agreement with the gunmen.
In 2020, the governor gave about 15 brand new Hilux vehicles and monetary gifts to the leaders of various ‘repentant’ bandit bandits.
But despite all this, communities in the state continue to be attacked and residents abducted and / or killed.
