Former Governor of the State of Ogun, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has joined the ruling APC All-Progressive Congress.
Gbenga was a member of the front row of the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, leading the election team of defeated presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku.
Daniel is expected to take over the APC membership card before the registration of new members closes today.
In a statement, Daniel apologized to his former party for the brief warning, saying his support for Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun was an indicator.
He explained that the decision was too hasty, with a request from the APC national chairman to visit him along with the three governors.
“I thought I should inform the house quickly before the news went viral,” he said.
Statement made available Vanguard read that “Dear friends and colleagues, I apologize for my brief notice to inform you of my journey to the APC which, as you may have suspected, began with my Governor Dapo Abiodun, who supported me, in the last election.
“Since then, I have experienced an avalanche of encouragement to board.
“However, in the last 48 hours, things have started at breakneck speed with the decision of the APC request to visit me in Asoludero on Wednesday with about 3 governors. While planning the visit, Governor Abiodun also decided to visit me later today with another Governor later today. That means I’m finally ‘trapped’
“I thought I should inform the house quickly before the news went viral. Thank you for your understanding

A source close to former Ogun state governor said he would meet with APC transitional committee chairman and Yobe state governor Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday.
Abubakar Governors Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State are expected to be part of the meeting.
The announcement of Gbeng Daniel’s defection came barely 24 hours after the former Social Democratic Party, SDP, a candidate for governor of the state of Osun, Iyiola Omisore, perfected its defection before the APC.
