A chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) of the state of Benue condemned the ongoing attacks by Nigerian military personnel on innocent citizens in the communities of Benue.
The party claimed that the men of the Nigerian army did not spare even the children, women and elderly people who live in the seven communities of Shangev-Tiev in the area of Konshisha state.
According to a statement signed by the party’s chairman, Comrade Rex Elan, which was made available to the SaharaReporters on Thursday, the survivors of the attacks have been displaced.
The party explained that the soldiers on their convoy were provoked by attacks by armed bandits in the area and that they have since caused terror against the residents of the community.
“The attention of the chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) of Benue State has been attracted by the constant destruction of life and property in no less than seven Shanghai-Tiev communities in the Konshisha LGA of Benue State.
“We have been reliably informed that in the last 3 days, Nigerian army men have launched a series of attacks on unarmed civilians in over 7 communities in Shanghai-Tiev, killing and displacing residents, including children, women and the elderly.
“The riot allegedly caused by an attack on a military convoy by armed bandits terrorizing the area has since witnessed the wrongful retaliation of soldiers by firing heavily on unarmed civilians around the area, using both air and ground troops to cause colossal destruction.
“Although the bandits allegedly fled immediately after the attack on the military convoy, the surrounding communities that needed the help of the Nigerian army to get rid of the bandits are now paying with their lives and property to the point of becoming displaced persons in their own country,” Elan told statement.
While the party is demanding the withdrawal of Nigerian troops to troubled areas, it has also called for the resignation of President Muhammad Bukhari over a failure to secure the country.
“Nigerian soldiers are destroying the communities of Gungul, Aku and Mbaakpuur. These are communities more than 30 kilometers from the scene where the bandits allegedly attacked military personnel.
“We want to emphasize that such an act of terror and impunity is completely reckless, barbaric, inhumane, tyrannical and unexpected by the Nigerian army. We therefore demand the immediate withdrawal of military troops from the affected communities, the urgent provision of aids to the affected and displaced persons, compensation for the affected communities and the prosecution of the soldiers involved in such heinous and criminal acts.
“We also want to reiterate our demand for the resignation of General Muhammad Buhari, who has become very insensitive to the security challenges in the country, consistently failing as president and commander-in-chief of the Nigerian armed forces.
“The state of Benue, the African Action Congress (AAC), is sincerely cooperating with families who lost their loved ones during the attack and whose houses and properties were destroyed.
“While we continue to turn to God for help, we must also begin to mobilize en masse as needed to resist and eliminate this minute percentage of” political monsters “in power, by all possible legitimate means: a reason to always recommend #RevolutionNow Protests.” is added in the statement.
