A police station in Abi, Abia state, came under attack by as yet unknown individuals who were said to have taken weapons and ammunition from the station.
It was gathered that the attack, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, resulted in the death of some people, both on the side of the police and on the coup.
Meanwhile, the Abia state government condemned the incident.
In a statement, the government noted that security agencies in the country have launched an action to extort perpetrators of crimes and bring them to justice as soon as possible, promising that no part of Abia will be ceded to criminals operating under any guise.
The state government has also promised to pay a million pounds to anyone who has relevant information that will lead to the recovery of the stolen weapons, as well as the arrest of all suspects.
Meanwhile, the state government has introduced a curfew for the operation of motorcycles and tricycles from 19:00 to 7:00 in the morning in all major cities of the state, which takes effect today.
