John Alechen, Abuja
Governor Mai Mala Buni, led by a transitional / extraordinary national convention planning committee, overturned on Wednesday the alleged suspension of Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi and some party members in Rivers State.
The faction led by Igo Aguma, the head of the Rivers State party, announced the suspension of the minister, Senator Andrew Uchendu and former APC Deputy Secretary of State Victor Giadom, for other alleged anti-party activities.
However, the National Secretariat of the APC, in a letter signed on Wednesday by the head of the legal service of the APC, Dare Oketade, described the suspension as null and void and has no effect because the people behind the action were fraudsters who risked sanctions.
In a letter entitled: “Alleged suspension of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Andrew Uchendu and the expulsion of Chief Hon. Victor Giadom, “addressed to Igu Agumi, warned the faction of further actions that could bring the party into disrepute.
The party said it had been brought to its attention by an act allegedly carried out by fraudsters who were allegedly party-level party officials. The party’s national leadership said it needed to be clarified in order to correct certain misconceptions.
The letter read in part: “We have checked our records with the National Secretariat and found that these persons are not officials of the Rivers State Party.
“Therefore, I was ordered by the national chairman, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, to inform you, so that there would be no doubt, that the chapter of the APS is led by Hon. Isaac Ogbobula, who was duly sworn in at the party’s National Secretariat in December 2020, following a meeting of the National Executive Committee held at the Aso Rock Abuja Council. “
It went on to read: “With the above, I would like to draw the attention of you and other members of the party in Rivers State to the consequences of misrepresentation both in our party’s constitutions and in Nigerian law.
“The party will not hesitate to take the necessary disciplinary action if any member of the party in Rivers State continues to take steps to emulate the recognized state transitional committee headed by Hon. Isaac Abbot Ogbobula or any of his heads of local government departments. “
