Afenifere, Ohanaeze fights ACF, forum says attacks on northerners are provocative

• Ethnic cleansing is not the solution to livestock crime – Ango Abdullahi

• ACF turns facts upside down, northerners kill in the south, says Ohanaeze

• Power is not exclusive to any region – Afenifere

• ACF is fun, says IYC

Prominent northerners met in Kaduna on Wednesday over the state of affairs in the state, saying some attacks by northerners in the south should have provoked the region.

The Panevernya socio-political organization, the Arewa Consultative Forum, stated at a northern summit organized by the Northern Elders Forum under the leadership of Professor Ang Abdullahi, which was held at the Arewa House in Kaduna.

But southern groups, including Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Afenifere, have criticized the ACF’s stance.

That was just when the chairman of the Forum of Northern Elders and former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ango Abdullahi, said that the region in 2023 will not vote for anyone along ethnic lines.

Abdullahi noted that politicians to be voted for must have socio-economic development plans for the region, regardless of tribe and religion, adding that those who care about people before, during and after the election will have their votes.

The former WC, who convened the northern summit of nations on barriers between nations and their leaders, said the region must “think outside the box and elect new groups of leaders who will fare much better than they do now.”

Abdullahi also warned those agitating for the country’s disintegration to reconsider, as he said secession was not the solution to any complaint.

He called on the federal government to take seriously the issues threatening the country’s disintegration.

He also said that the bandits Boko Haram and Fulani are not a problem of the North, but a threat to the Nigerian nation.

However, he noted that those who thought they could solve the crime among the elements of Fulani by ethnic cleansing, made a terrible mistake.

He also said using restructuring as a threat to the negotiating tool to accept zoning would destroy the restructuring imperative and threaten the country.

Abdullahi said, “Northern voters supported three Southerners Abiola, Obasanjo and Jonathan in a victory in the past, two of them against the Northerners. Northern voters are enlightened and aware of their responsibilities. They have learned, perhaps more expensively than most Nigerians, that ethnicity and religion alone are not good leaders. They will not accept being further weakened to leave the same rights that all Nigerians enjoy.

“Those politicians who want northerners to vote in a certain way should get their boots dirty and convince northerners that their candidates will improve security, the economy and society in the north and in the country. Using restructuring as a threat or a negotiating tool to accept zoning will destroy the restructuring imperative and threaten the country.

“Politicians and leaders who want to lead must understand that Nigerians are watching what they are doing in their immediate constituencies, which will allow them to ask for our support. We should talk honestly and directly with the rest of Nigeria about this issue.

“Politicians who cannot impose their influence on irredentists who threaten our corporate existence and the lives and existence of our fellow northerners stand on very thin ground in our assessment.

“Politicians who cannot or will not influence the public sentiment that demonstrates our fellow northerners and leaves them open to attack will not be of great importance to us as leaders under whom we will feel safe and secure.”

ACF Deputy President Senator Ibrahim Ida, who made the northern body’s position known, said the region must ensure that no one takes it for granted.

He stated, “We are the fabric that holds Nigeria together. We are provoked by incessant attacks on northerners in the south. So in the end we have to make sure that no one takes us for granted or underestimates us. Let’s change the template, show our interest the way we want. ”

He also said the north needs internal cohesion through an elite consensus, as the region is currently at a crossroads given a number of adversities.

“The north is at a crossroads. We really need internal cohesion through an elite consensus on what the North stands for, the resources available and what we want to achieve.

“We have enemies inside us and we have to turn them around and make them see things our way. There is no involvement in the way we run our business, ”he said.

For his part, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’abba, said: “Many people have the right to compete, but it is not suitable for leadership. Leadership is not for everyone, it is not a matter for those who want everything. Leaders must possess so many virtues.

“In 1999, when I realized that there was an agenda against the North, I did everything I could to make it fail, but I came across the strongest opposition among our governors.”

YCE corrupts ACF

The Secretary General of the Council of Yoruba Elders, Dr. Kunle Olajide, disagreed with that claim, saying it was wrong to say that southerners were attacking northerners to provoke them.

He said this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The YCE chief said, “If it’s a summary of what they said there, I don’t agree with them. It is obvious what we have witnessed in the last six years. The gross insensitivity of this current administration to the cries of southerners in Nigeria is invisible.

“The unpopotic attitude of the Bukhari government is enough to further polarize the country. So there are no attacks on northerners and no one is saying that all northerners are bad. What we are saying is that this administration is insensitive to the federal character clause in the constitution and that there is no greeting at all for other parts of Nigeria in appointments. That is why the country cannot move forward and that is the result of the 1999 Constitution. ”

The Ijaw Youth Congress also disputed the ACF’s claims.

IYC President Peter Igbifa, who made this statement in a statement sent to one of our correspondents, said the statement was amusing and contradicted the current reality in the country.

Igbifa referred the group to a statement previously attributed to Senator Sheh Sani on the state of the nation.

The IYC president quoted Sani as saying, “The only region that is relatively peaceful is the South,” which is why the heart of the country continues to beat, despite bloodshed and violence in other regions. We should all be grateful. ”

An ingredient of changing the strength of true federalism – Afenifere

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has stated that there is a need for other geo-political zones in the country to produce the next president in 2023.

The association’s national secretary general, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, who spoke to one of our correspondents, said it would be unfair to keep northerners in power, saying power is not the exclusive property of any part of the country.

He said, “As long as we want merit and quality as a criterion for a person to become the next president, there is no geo-political zone in this country that does not have a quality and competent person to become president.

“So, in the spirit of justice, I think the power should be transferred to another part of the country. The change of power is a component of true federalism, and anyone who is against the change of power is the enemy of true federalism. “

The ACF turns the facts upside down, the Northerners carry out the killings in the South – Ohanaeze

The socio-cultural organization Igbo Ohanaeze Ndigbo described the alleged killing of northerners in the south as unfounded.

The question was whether it was Igbo who massacred over 20 Igbo natives in Ebonyi communities last week.

Ohanaeze spokesman, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, spoke by phone with one of our correspondents.

Denying the alleged killing of northerners in the south, Ogbonnia said Igbo had achieved a decent civilization.

He stated, “Killing is not part of our culture. We respect the sanctity of human life. Igbo does not kill, Igbo is very hospitable; very accommodating; they receive foreigners of all kinds and allow people of different ethnic groups to do business in their country. What Igbo admires is ingenuity and hard work. At Igbo we don’t advertise killing, it’s not part of our tradition and culture, but we’re talking about ingenuity. ”

“In the state of Ebonyi, the Fulani attacked communities and massacred the natives of Igbo. In the Iga community in the local Uzo-Uwani government, Fulani attacked the community and killed Igbo. Livestock breeders from the north clash with southerners. Why do they turn it upside down? “

In a vote in 2023, a spokesman for Ohanaeze said, “Nigeria will start moving well when you put expertise and achievement records before appointments to sensitive positions.

“If the recruitment process is based on competence and records of achievements, Nigeria will move well. But as long as we give priority to ethnic and religious sentiments, what you hear and see in Nigeria will continue. So, we have two options – either we bring people who are competent to the position of government or we continue with religious and ethnic feelings and we continue as we are. I want to believe that most Nigerians will want us to go with the competence to a meeting to make Nigeria better than it is today. ”
