Visually locate your lost items using AR technology using the Galaxy SmartTag +
Samsung Electronics today announced the official launch of the Galaxy SmartTag +, which will be available from April 16.1 The Galaxy SmartTag + is equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, so it can pinpoint location.2 It also uses augmented reality (AR) technology to use a smartphone camera to visually guide you to where your missing item is..3
Find your lost items easily
The Galaxy SmartTag +, the latest version of Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, can be attached to everyday items, such as backpacks or pendants, so they can be accurately and easily located through SmartThings Find service on your Galaxy device.4
Locate your belongings visually using the new AR Finder technology
Since the Galaxy SmartTag + is enabled for BLE and UWB, you can now use AR technology to find the missing item.5 AR Finder guides you through a simple interface on a smartphone equipped with UWB, like the Galaxy S21 + or S21 Ultra, which shows you how far you are from your Galaxy SmartTag + and directs you in its direction. And when you get close to the place of the tag, you can choose to produce a loud ring, so even if it’s tucked under the sofa, you won’t have a problem finding it.
“UWB is a real game-changing player, which allows us to infer the position of the facility with much greater precision,” said KJ Kim, EVP and head of mobile research and development, Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications company. “That’s why we continue to expand UWB through the Galaxy ecosystem, finding new ways to take advantage of this technology to make people’s lives easier and easier.”
Determine the location of the tag, even when it is far away
The Galaxy SmartTag + can also take advantage of the powerful SmartThings Find detection capabilities, allowing you to locate highlighted items on a map, even if it’s placed somewhere very far from your location. This is because the tags use the BLE connectivity and network power of Galaxy devices. SmartThings Find users can choose to sign up through the SmartThings app and enable their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others find their own lost bookmarks or devices. Once you report that your tag is missing in SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy device that has turned on will alert the SmartThings server of its location and you will receive a notification. All data in SmartThings Find is encrypted and protected, so the location of the tag is not revealed to anyone but you.
Remote control of smart devices at the click of a button
On top of that, the Galaxy SmartTag + and SmartTag are useful for more than just locating lost assets. Forgot to turn off the night light, but have already left the house? Instead of going home, you can use SmartTag + or SmartTag to turn off the lights remotely.6 Through the SmartThings app, you can select the various functions you want the bookmark to complete when you press or hold the bookmark button.
