One police officer was not seen after armed assailants attacked a police station located at the headquarters of the Mbieri Police Department in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State.
According to The PUNCH, the attack took place in the wee hours of Thursday.
Orlando Ikeokwu, a spokesman for the Im police command, was quoted as saying that two other police officers were injured while resisting the attack.
Ikeokwu said some suspects at the police station were released.
The incident comes after attacks on the prison and headquarters of the police command in Owerri, the state capital of Imo, on Monday.
Over 1500 prisoners they were allegedly acquitted in attacks allegedly carried out by members of the indigenous population of Biafra (IPOB).
Nada Uzodinma, the governor of Imo, described the development as an attack on “the integrity of the government”.
Uzodinma asked the police to defend themselves “if you can’t attack them”.
“Every attack on a police formation insults us as a government. We have to take responsibility, take control and ensure discipline, ” he said.
“We must not approve of criminal attacks on the government. The police must not be compromised so that the integrity of the government remains intact.
“This unfortunate tragedy can only be condemned by any reasonable mind, the intention was to instill fear in our people and make them vulnerable.”
