Upcoming edition of JRR Tolkien Lord of the Rings the trilogy will, for the first time since being published in the mid-1950s, include paintings, drawings and other illustrations by the British author.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media announced on Thursday that the new version will be released on October 19th. Deb Brody, vice president and publisher of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, noted that Tolkien was already known for his illustrations that appeared in The Hobbit and that his artwork for “The Lord of the Rings” was exhibited in 2018 in New York City in Paris and in Oxford, England.
“Yet the author himself was characteristically modest, rejecting the obvious and rare artistic talent he possessed, even though he had no formal education,” Brody said in a statement. “This modesty meant that relatively little of his other work of art was known or seen during his lifetime, and after that mostly only in scientific books.”
Lord of the Rings books, which include The family of the ring,, Two towers i The return of the king, are one of the best-selling fantasy novels in history. Director Peter Jackson adapted them into a blockbuster trilogy of films.
