A 35-year-old man, Umaru Jibrin, stabbed the chief imam of the city of Enagi in the local government of Edati in the state of Niger over an alleged sexual relationship with his wife Aisha Umar.
Jibrin claims to have caught 48-year-old Islamic cleric Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan in the act and stabbed him in the neck with a knife when he called him for a peace talk.
However, police arrested him in the state.
Telling about what happened to reporters at the Minna police headquarters, Jibrin said, “When I saw him above his wife, I said hub Imam, why do you have to do this to me? Aisha, my wife, what are you looking for? “

Jibrin further explained that he came out after asking them to see his brother, one Abubakar Abdulrahman informed him of what he had seen.
“But not long after, the imam sent for me for a peace conversation and declared that the matter was hidden from the public,” he said.
However, it was said that an argument followed in the process, because of which Jibrin forcibly collected a stick in the hand of the chief imam and stabbed him in the neck.
Parading the suspect on Tuesday, the state’s public relations police officer, Wasiu Abiodun, told reporters that the suspect followed in his footsteps when the incident occurred, but was later arrested in the village of Batati, in Lavun state.
Abiodun said some young men mobilized at a police station in the area to lynch a juvenile justice suspect from the jungle, but police officers there intervened.
He advised the general public to give up taking the law under their own, saying that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and that the suspect will soon be indicted in court.
