A truck loaded with a state-of-the-art engine (PMS) exploded and killed six people in Jebba in Moro, the local government of the state of Kwara, on Wednesday.
The tanker, which is said to have traveled through the ancient city, lost control and spilled its contents as it crashed into houses.
An eyewitness said the incident resulted in huge explosions that also burned over 30 houses and shops.
Fire service spokesman Hassan Adekunle confirmed the incident. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq sympathized with the bereaved families and families of those who lost property, describing the development as devastating and sad.
In a statement, his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye, said: “The governor is very sad about this development, especially the loss of life and property and agricultural land worth from Naira.
“He extends his sincere condolences to the affected families. He invites them to take heart and remain calm as believers. He ordered the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to relocate to determine the material loss.
