House member Akeem Adeyemi on Tuesday called on Nigerians to support National Congress of All Progressives (APC) national leader Asiwaju Bol Tinubu if he decides to run for president in 2023.
The party chief, who represents the constituency of Oyo East, West and Afijo, described the former Lagos governor as a political phenomenon, a shrewd administrator and a shrewd businessman who became the “Generalisimo of Nigerian politics” within 23 years.
Adeyemi, the prince of the kingdom of Oyo, described Tinubu as a tactician who has a forerunner to be a pro-democratic crusader, a bridge builder, a risk taker, a humanist and a man of foresight.
The former chairman of the council also noted that Asiwaju Tinubu was a reference point in the political class, judging by his refusal to collapse his political structure into the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Paying tribute to Asiwaju Tinubu’s resilience and survival ability, the legislator said the former governor endured the antics and tendencies of former President Olusegun Obasanya, who tried to cripple the state of Lagos by denying allocations to newly created councils.
Adeyemi said Tinubu was adorned with creativity, applied new strategies for internally generated income to pay wages to workers, and funded many development projects.
Welcoming him as a convincing opposition leader, Adeyemi said the APC leader has never wavered in his constructive criticism of the PDP-led administration for 16 years.
Going down the trail of memory, Adeyemi said Tinubu’s achievements had strategically placed him on a high pedestal of national politics.
He paid tribute to him for his leading role in forming the defunct Action Congress (AC), its transformation into the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and merging the inherited parties into the APC.
Noting that Tinubu never held party positions, despite his efforts, the MP said that he is still the embodiment of loyalty and commitment to party goals.
Adeyemi added: “His strategic political map of the settlement of the West and the North was key to the APC’s victory in the 2015 general elections.
“Despite all odds, he has secured the emergence of his favorite candidate, Muhammad Bukhari, as the presidential candidate of the Congress of All Progressives.”
The Prince of Oyo also described Tinubu as a talent hunter and leader who wants to educate young people for leadership.
He recalled that the former governor was important for the rise of prominent leaders, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamil, former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fasholu, former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesi, Information Minister Ekiti Kakoda Mohammed and Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Among others were the governors of Gboyega Oyetol (Osun), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) and AbdurRahman Abdur-Razak (Kwara), as well as former governors Akinwumi Ambode (Lagos), Adeyo Adeyoniyi (Ekiti), Ms. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Ms. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Babatunde Fowler, Ben Akabueze, Joe Igbokwe, Mr. Supo Shasore, Femi Pedro and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
