Seventeen people have been killed in a horrific motor accident on the Irepene Abuja / Lokoja highway in Kogi state.

The incident happened on Tuesday around 5:00 p.m.

It has been reliably established that the accident occurred between a Toyota Hiace bus and a luxury bus.

It was further learned that 15 people died at the scene of the incident, while other passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to hospital.

Unfortunately, two passengers who were rushed to the hospital later died.

The commander of the state sector of the state of Kogi, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Solomon Agure, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday.

Agure said, “The Toyota Hiace was descending to the state of Auchi Edo, and the Luxury bus was coming from the axis of the Ocean. The luxury bus overtook the car and lost control. Of course, it was night, so he came and hit a smaller Toyota bus pushing it into a bush. The vehicle fell abruptly and 15 people died on the spot and two later died at the hospital. “

However, he advised motorists to reduce speed, avoid night trips and always plan a trip emphasizing that they should avoid dangerous overtaking while traveling.

“It is very important that drivers respect the speed limit, which is 90 for commercial vehicles and 100 for private vehicles,” he said.

Agure said the team has deployed no less than 522 staff to ensure the free flow of traffic during this yuletide season.

The sector commander further hinted that more officers from the neighboring state of Ekiti and Kwara are expected to support the command to celebrate Christmas.
