It was gathered that the incident happened around 9 am when a tanker driving on the popular Gaika road in Jebba, a border town in the state of Kwara, suddenly lost control.

It was said that the truck violently hit the car in its rear part, and then the fire destroyed it before it hit the nearby buildings, and at least thirty of them were hit.

The gasoline substance that allegedly spilled on the floor after the collision ignited hell.

The governor of the state of Kwara, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a quick reaction sympathizing with the families of those who lost their lives and property in the fire. He described the development as devastating and sad.

According to a statement issued by Governor-General Rafiu Ajakaye’s spokesman, “The governor is very saddened by this event, especially the loss of life and property and agricultural land worth one million naira.

“He extends his sincere condolences to the affected families. He invites them to take heart and remain calm as believers.

“He also ordered the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to move quickly to determine the material loss,”

According to the statement, “It also commends the Kwara State Fire Service and others responsible for their efforts in helping to reduce the raging hell and minimize losses.

“Once again he expresses his condolences to the victims and their families for this very sad event and prays to Almighty God to rest the souls of the deceased.”
