Twelve people died, while 25 were injured in a fatal accident that occurred on the Abuja-Kaduna road on Wednesday.
In a statement Wednesday, the commissioner, Interior Ministry and Interior Minister Mr. Samuel Aruwan noted that, “The Kaduna State Government has received a report from security agencies on a fatal road accident that occurred this morning at the 26th kilometer of Kaduna-Abuja Highway.
“Twelve people were killed and 25 were injured in the accident, who are now being treated at the hospital. Several cattle were also killed in the accident.
“The collision, which involved a trailer, was caused by a combination of speeding, damage to the road, driving against the direction of traffic and loss of control. As a result, the trailer swerved off the road and overturned, as seen in the attached pictures.
“Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed grief over the report of the fatal accident and sympathized with the families of the deceased, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“The governor further ordered citizens moving on the highway to give up dangerous and potentially disastrous practices such as speeding, overloading, reckless driving and driving against the flow of traffic, which the Kaduna state government banned a week ago.”
The statement further added that, “accordingly, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Internal Affairs of the State of Kaduna today conducted extensive patrols on the Kaduna-Abuja highway to impose compliance with the traffic ban.
“The crane was set up to remove two dead bodies mutilated and trapped under the wreckage of the trailer. The scene of the accident was cleared, and the security agencies ensured the normal movement of traffic along the route, “the statement said.
